BIO

Paolo Muraro’s musical journey began in Italy and continued first in the United States and now in London, UK. He started on flute at age 12, with classical studies before embracing Brazilian music and jazz, adding the tenor saxophone in his late teens. He studied jazz at the Accademia Musicale Pescarese with Gianluca Esposito and at Richmond Jazz School with Dave Jones and Henry Lowther. He also studied privately jazz saxophone with Stan Sulzmann and Gilad Atzmon, and attended masterclasses, workshops, and clinics with Fred Hemke, the Chicago Jazz Ensemble, Bob Mintzer, Frank Morgan, Jerry Bergonzi, Bill Evans, Bob Reynolds, and many other masters.

Paolo has performed both as a leader and sideman in jazz and Brazilian music ensembles across Italy, the US, and the UK, sharing the stage with Giovanni Guaccero and Edoardo Bignozzi in Rome and London; Jeff Suzda, Joey Whitney, Jerome Meltzer, and Danny Griffin in Washington, D.C.; and Steve Waterman, Julian Costello, Maciek Pysz, Stefanos Tsourelis, Paolo Losi and Olivia Cuttill in London. He is frequently called to play tenor or alto saxophone in London big bands.​

INSTRUMENTS

Paolo’s main horns are the tenor and soprano saxophones and the flute. He doubles on other woodwinds—including alto sax, alto flute, clarinet and bass clarinet. He also plays and occasionally performs on wind synths / controllers (Akai EWI and Synthophone).
